Ok that's it! I've had enough.....reissue on vinyl pressed at a quality plant, NOW. I saw this performed live in 2000. This problem is I bought the CD. No time machine available so...what are you waiting for?

Again just like what alternapop said. Loved to see this reissued. Lost souls is one of my favourite albums ever. Just like Kate Bushes Ariel, I will have to except the fact that I will never own this.

On this first lush and dreamy offering by Doves, one slowly comes to terms with the music, as if the sounds are waves washing over you, bathing you in shimmering sounds and floating you away ... but not to an island of lost souls, more to a place of where there is a meeting of the minds.This is no easy journey though, there is so much music here, and in a variety of styles, that it will take some time to get through all of it, place it in a contextually, and sort it out in your head ... but that’s half the fun for me. Doves have created a sound here that is almost impossible to define and pin down, it is ethereal, atmospheric, textured, floats like clouds and comes back to haunt you when you least expect it to.This record is not as pretentious as I am making it to seem, the music is totally unexpected and as I said undefinable ... this all goes to create something so wonderful that it can not be described, only appreciated and enjoyed through listening.Review by Jenell Kesler

It's been 15 years since this was released, so it's about time this had a proper vinyl repress! Do you hear that Heavenly?!?! The wait is killing me! Maybe that somehow has a one hour version of "The Cedar Room"! The album is so amazing, but too hard to get on vinyl, without giving up a limb!

one of the best albums ever made in my opinion. Wonderful sonic scapes and complex layered instruments. Doves are the most under rated bands to emerge from the UK in the past 25 years. Firesuite is a brilliant way to open an album, melancholic and beautifully paced. Best listened to on headphones, while travelling, you hear different parts to it with every fresh listen. I've just bought it (at great expense due to the rarity) on vinyl and I swear I am hearing new elements of the album all over again.To see these guys live is an absolute privilege. They switch instruments for some songs, and just jam through some of the songs - musically they are extremely talented. And of course, they usually finish with the rave classic Spaceface from their SubSub days which is just epic. The tragedy is there limited output - 4 albums in 12 years is hardly prolific and it would appear the last album may be their last. Apparently they sweat blood over every song on every album and therefore the creative process is a struggle for them. The struggle is worth it for me at least.10/10

Delirium

The most interesting thing I find about Doves is that they used to be an electronic group by the name of Sub Sub until a studio fire destroyed a good amount of their equipment. While they had good productions as Sub Sub like "Space Face" and "Past", they decided to start anew and make completely different kind of music. "Lost Souls", Doves' debut album, would foreshadow their prominence in the rock/alternative/pop genres. The first track, "Firesuite", is a predominantly instrumental track that starts the cd off with a slow, relaxed mood. Track 3, "Break Me Gently", was the song that got me into Doves when I heard the Hybrid version in one of their mixes. I prefer the first half of the cd due to the melancholy, slow paced songs like "Firesuite", "Break Me Gently", "Sea Song" and "Rise". The second half of the CD includes the notable track "Catch the Sun", which just might be the most popular track from this cd. "Lost Souls" is a very quality cd and has little to no filler tracks; almost every song is enjoyable to listen to.

It was neat seeing them perform live in the early days too because they'd often throw random Sub Sub songs into their sets.
