Is this a bootleg? More words more words more still

Hello. I bought the regular album on vinyl (I mean the tracks including raps) - the sticker/label on the vinyl got all the tracks printed on it. But on this vinyl there are just the instrumental versions. Does anyone know of this faulty press??
  • Samuhn
Despite the picture disc aspect (blegh) it sounds damn good.
  • Gabar
Both of mine are black vinyl :D

Just picked up this reissue. I compared it with a fairly high-res. digital file of the original recording. The remastering seems to take a fairly conservative approach, which is good. I never heard the original on record but this new vinyl sounds pretty true to the original. Pressing itself not bad, a bit noisy on the run-in for each side. For a Geffen/Rawkus reissue of a fantastic but semi-obscure title this is a nice offering overall, with a color bi-fold insert like the legit original. The colored "black star" vinyl is perhaps not ideal sonically but I don't intend to spin the shit outta this so it should hold up. Got it off of Ebay for 26.00 shipped and the seller managed to pack well enough and the force was with me, so the USPS didn't destroy it en route. I'm happy.

I think this release sounds pretty good all things considered.

I agree with the comment below. This album sounds really good, not like that crappy Italian bootleg. If you don't have an original and want a great sounding pressing, this one comes recommended.

I wish they hadn't done this on a picture disc, but I have to say it sounds good. I couldn't tell from just hearing it. So since the disc looks cool too, this press gets a big thumbs up from me. Love this album.

I had this bootleg copy for about a week. The guy who sold it to me used the original cover art for the picture, so I thought I was getting a legit reissue until I looked up the catalog number. I kept an open mind and decided to give it a listen when I received it. My first impression was that it wasnt bad just not how it should sound. I agree with others who have suggested that It was cut using the digital master. It seemed kind of sterile and at times it sounded like the levels were recorded hot, like on the verge of distortion. I was messing with the EQ alot to adjust the sound from song to song. Overall it just didnt sound like an accurate representation of the record on vinyl. When I got the original press about a week later, there was no question in my mind that the bootleg was getting returned. The original sounded clean and buttery the way a properly mastered vinyl record should be. Overall my advice to anyone who is thinking about picking up this bootleg would be, hold out for an original or the legit repress if you dont mind a picture disc. But if you have to pick it up until you find the original, I wouldn't pay more than $10.

Just picked up the Italian bootleg release. Mine are cream marbled (LP 2 is lighter). Sound is comparable to the CD version in my opinion (most likely a digital master). Ok for $20. Not as nice as the original but I wouldn't hesitate to spin it. Is what it is.

I NEED THE COVER FOR THIS ALBUM SOMEONE SELL ME ONE!!! I bought a black star single and instead of the single it was the LP for the entire album got it for a buck. But I need the cover!! haha
  • Cia
Yeah, I bought Gangstarr’s hard to earn from respect the classics brand new and it came with two disc 2’s. LOL.
  • Rrinel
Someone out there is missing their blackstar album :'( sadBut lucky dude, these are the joys of buying shit at record stores - you find some of the craziest stuff.
  • furious ox
Lol, that's a nice surprise but a tough problem to solve. I'd probably buy a version with a nice cover and crappy LPs and swap them out. I bought a Busts Rhymes Extinction Level Event that came with two Disc 2s, I was like wtf lol? I guess I need to find a copy with two Disc 1s and then sell the worse copy haha.
  • zzzachibis
Look at that wack ass cover rip-off. Horrible.
  • Broadraven
Just look at the official release cover vs this knock-off cover. It's a total hack job. They didn't even use the same font for "BLACKSTAR".
  • Nahn
Listening to it now and seems fine throughout. The opening to Brown Skin Lady was a little distorted, but I'm on Thieves In The Night now and its not sounding so hot. Its not horrible, but I would probably stay away from this release.
  • Mr.Death
Both of mine are clear vinyl, too. I also have a lot of ticks throughout the album, but no distortion. Sound quality sounds mp3-ish so I'm not really all that impressed with this release.
  • Mavivasa
buyers? have you like the sound? is it an analogue press? sound is good when you compare with the original? thanx..
  • Yayrel
I don't know if anyone mentioned this before but the back cover says there 13 tracks and "Twice Inna Lifetime" is number 13. Though the center label says there are only 12 tracks because "Thieves In The Night" is missing there. Is anyone able to confirm that or is it just my copy?
  • ᵀᴴᴱ ᴼᴿᴵᴳᴵᴻᴬᴸ
I also have the Version that says 13 Tracks and on the B Label "Twice Inna Lifetime" is number 12 and "Thieves In The Night" is missing. On both sides there are two runouts each. One is sratched out with xxxxxxxx all over it and one is RWK-11581 A-1 and the same for side B with RWK-11581 B-1.Also the runout of side B is way bigger then the runout of side A.
  • Water
Yes - my copy is like this too.
  • Blackredeemer
I recently purchased this (without reading the comments that some buyers believe this may be a bootleg) and came to the same conclusion. After listening and examining my copy – I also believe it to be a bootleg – however mine seems different than the one ecks-bogota listed. My sleeve (full picture version) has cardboard colour on the inside (not white – which is the same as ecks-bogota's version). However, both centre labels look good quality and the inner ring crosses right above the W in Rawkus logo. Both runouts are standard..RWK-1158-ARWK-1158-BMajor visible difference – side B of the record appears to have a matte finish. It is not shiny and smooth like the A side or any other standard new albums. It has a slight roughness to it. There is a lot of background hiss throughout the pressing and it gets progressively worse on the b side of the album.
  • INwhite
Anyone else here have an issue with noise on side B? It is most noticeable during "Brown Skin Lady" and "Respiration" (unfortunate, since that's probably my favorite track on the album). The beat is fine throughout, but the vocal tracks seem to get pretty unbearably distorted...
  • Xurad
The label on ther b-side reads:11. Respiration12. Twice Inna LifetimeActually Twice inna Lifetime is 13. The 12th song (my favourite) Thieves in the Night is missing on the label!
  • Crazy
Same here. Anyone else? On the 2014 reissue it’s not missing.
  • Kirimath
Both of mine are clear vinyl
  • Ttexav
Same here. My Disc 1 is a clear vinyl with black marbling. Disc 2 is clear vinyl.
  • Haal
Official LP has RJ signature (means this vinyl was masterd by Ray Janos at Sterling Sound) on the etching of A-side.
  • Bladebringer
Not too sure what version I have...- Cat# RWK 1158-1- No insert (and although not in plastic wrap, record store where I purchased doesn't sell second hand records)- The back cover does not have a boarder- Inside of sleeve not white - inner ring on label is 3mm far from the W on logo.- Barcode: 6 01617 11581 3- runouts:Matrix / Runout (Side A): RWK-1158-A1Matrix / Runout (Side B): RWK-1158-B1
