Dreamscape '94 was in some ways the final track of The Time Frequency, as after this they quickly disappeared from the scene (only to emerge some four years later producing generic euro-trance style tracks). But what a way to bow out.Dreamscape '94, the title song, is a fantastic remix of the earlier "Take Me Away" from the Power Zone E.P. which keeps the energy but created a fresher, altogether more complete take on the song. Powerfully emotive vocals from Debbie Millar and a strong production from T.T.F. really made this track a definite floor filler in 1994, and it still sends shivers down my spine. The b-sides are excellent, as always for a T.T.F. release. Spread over two CD singles, you are given four tracks of equal merit.Firstly there is the incredible Future Rhythm, which is only available as the live recording presented here. It really showcases a side of T.T.F. that could have progressed, if only they had of been allowed to do so. It is hard, it is thumping, it is techno, it is trance, but by no means does it sound like 1994. It is very unique, and it is outstanding. The Hardcore Bounce is a remix of the earlier track The Bounce (from the Such A Phantasy E.P), which raises the tempo slightly and introduces more typical 1994 style Bouncy Techno feeling. I can only image that T.T.F. were shocked at the success of The Bounce and decided to do a remix to please the more hardcore dancefloors, as T.T.F. were definitely not a part of the hardcore scene. The final two tracks are really special. They are two remixes of classic early 80's songs, and they are treated with fine respect.First there is Simple Mind's "Theme For Great Cities". The melody is retained, but the tempo is greatly increased. Purists may question this move, but once the beautifully unique piano line introduces itself all is made clear. A pulsating bassline drives things along, and the grand synth pads / filtered keys contribute to make this a remix of utmost respect. Finally there is the Visage classic "Fade To Grey". This track has been remixed countless times over the years, but I have got to say that the T.T.F cover version is without a doubt the most authentic and true remix I have heard. Jon Campbell sings the vocal, and his Scottish accent really hints at what Midge Ure may have sounded like had he been given the job instead of the legendary Visage main man Steve Strange. The music itself is kept very faithful to the original as I previously mentioned. The tempo is increased of course, but not to a level that would make it obvious. Instead, the track is kept respectable and I can really tell the respect that T.T.F. had for these innovative artists. The Time Frequency were my childhood heroes, and this release across two CD singles typifies why I love them so much.
