Notes

Kurt Harland:
"While continuing to play shows we managed to scrape together about $2000 to make the first InSoc recording: The InSoc E.P.

We printed 1000 copies of this, and sold perhaps 50. One local distributer said, after a few months, "Yeah, I'd actually appreciate it if you got them the hell out of here." I saved about 200, but over half of them were discarded and destroyed. It taught us that having an album didn't really mean much. What I wish we had understood better was that self-made albums are to be used for promoting the band. We should have made an effort to get these E.P.'s into the hands of people in the music business".

That's a super rad story. Thanks for sharing! I know they were huge in the Bronx before they broke much wider, which is funny when you think about it - a bunch of smart-aleck college kids from Minneapolis playing freestyle music to big crowds 1500 miles away!

I saw INSOC live at First Avenue and was so impressed that I contact Jerry Silvers at Wide Angle records and took a handful of the first pressings of Running then drove my car to the Bronx and gave them to S.U.R.E. Record pool in 1984 and was happy to have played a small part in generating a buzz on this band from my hometown which later resulted in them getting noted and later signed on Tommy Boy Records.
