I love Steady B's style. Dope heavy jerky rhythms and powerful delivery of rhymes over the top. It's nearly all biggin up himself and some comical lyrics too, with "Yo Mutha" being a hilarious tune. Lyrics on "Hit Me" reveal that he was 17 when these rhymes were recorded. I was just a year older myself. I never bought this album at the time although I had several tracks on various *Word and Upfront/Serious compilations. I just picked up a clean secon-hand copy and I'm well chuffed. This album still sounds dope even though it is obviously dated. The simple style of these early productions still holds its own, and there are some ridiculously heavy beats. It's a pity that his career declined to the extent he got involved in crime and currently languishes in jail as an accessory to HomicideNotice anything else? Yes, I took my DJ name from Mr B way back then in 86/87, it was just such a neat name, and obviously I was a fan.

I bought this album when it was released (I was 15) after hearing the title track on John Peel. The whole album is very fresh for its time, and side 1 particularly sounds dope still today. The different depth and lovely Marley Marl sound is apparent on 'Get Physical', and the soulful 80s cheating girl is cool. 'Surprise' is a nice 80s story-type tune popular at the time, which is solid, and sets the standard Steady B track- his second album sounds like this all the way through, but not as convincing. If you only own one Steady B album, it has to be this one. 'Do The Fila' subverts Joeski Love's 'Pee Wee Dance' in a less polished but doper way (I love those old 'do this dance' tunes!) and I'm playing it now as I type, still sounds good to me.
