Probably the best song the Moody Blues ever did. An interesting mix of blues and gospel, this was originally slated to be recorded by an american female soul group, but since its appearance during 'the british invasion', the Moody Blues were given the song and handed the hit. It would be all downhill for the Moody Blues, as they embraced the 'pop as art' movement of the late sixties and went on to record hopelessly pretentious and very successful 'concept' albums. Most people love their precious Moody Blues. I can't stand them.

Sorry mate you are wrong. Go now was recorded by Bessie Banks on the Tiger label in the USA, in 1964 and written by her husband and Issued in the UK on Red Bird. (extremely rare) the same year. So the Bessie Banks version had already flopped. The Moody Blues covered it later that year and as was usual at the time the local (better known) act got the promotion and the hit. Although not as good as the original it is still a very good verson that stands up today. To say they were given the song implies that the Banks version was heId back in order to boost the cover version is wrong, as Red Bird was licenced by Pye and the Moody's Decca label had no links with Pye.
