Marcos Leiras may not be moving, along with his label, at an unstoppable pace, but I'd say it is rather safe to concude that he's making all the right turns and stops. So far, his improvement as far as studio work is concerned is staggering. For every calendar year you decide to include him on your watchlist, he rewards you three times over. Last year, I was hyped, but had some minor gripes about his four track assault on dance floors via Developer's Olympian imprint. In comes "A Prison Of Predictions". Now calling this a benchmark for techno music a mere month after its actual release is probably more associated to the honeymoon period still kicking strong than the actual music, so let's move on that that next.To give it to you right away, you are in possesion of one prime example of a well thought out, well arranged and even better produced piece of proper, up to date techno. At this stage you probably assume that it must make more failed attempts at originality than the most recent metabolism boosters. Good news. It doesn't.The maker's greatest achievement is that he is more than aware of the fact that he is making a techno album, which for better or for worse kind of chains you to certain expectations. He's cool with it, but at the end of the day, given the genre, you have to make the people move. It is precisely at this point where his expertise shines through. By now he's taken note of the trappings of churning out four sides of club fodder composed on Apple applications imitating Roland equipment, getting falsely marketed as an album, and likewise, he's probably heard a few full lenghts where artists hopelessly dive into gratuitous sound design for the sake of thinking outside of the box, sinking into seemingly endless abyss of unfavorable criticism. To set the record straight, this is as pure of a an excursion into techno as any you have encountered in 2017. All the longer tracks are happily ready for club use, and to what standard, as the tight beats are a constant throughout the plates. So if it is four to the floor for the better part, what sets it apart? It's not innovation, it's how existing patterns have been decomposed, and interpreted in a fresh way. It is proper techno music, but every single bit of this album has interesting arrangements, captivating audio trickery, super catchy and invigorating loops, with meticulous layering and positioning. Parts of this effort could easily go shoulder to shoulder with works of some veterans. This album has been in heavy rotation for three months, roughly once a week, and I stil catch myself smiling for noticing yet another one of those moments with new session. Then I realize that this is a pretty uptempo and robust album. You do not get this much delicacy on those often. You either adhere to the needs of the floor or go introspective on the fan base.In my opinion, this album perfectly encapsulates the demands of a seasoned techno purist and then ups the game by juxtaposing them with delightful aural finesses, which admittedly do stem in the firm techno spectrum, but do not let that turn you off. He may be working within previously established boundries, but he's touched the outer rims of wherever it is that you point. The skeptics amoungst you will want to know about interludes being used on a techno album. I am not a fan. Probably less in favor of those than you claim to be. But my, even here greatness is achieved. They cannot even be considered your generic space fillers. These are not three minute drones loaded with obsolete NASA communication logs from the sixites, alien culture references, cookie cutter industrial hiss and what not we the listeners have to sit through. We are talking about musical compositions here. Balbeek and Imperceptible are two great examples. The first is a most unexpected combo of atypically - for a lack of a more user friendly term - high BPM rates and seductive acid leads, while the latter then brings the plane back into orbit with its bleeps, heavily reverbed over a rather heavy bass line. As for the album opener, Albino Species, it is a rather moving, melancholic piece of ambience, and a part of me wishes it was longer. There is nothing related to this release that sounds like it's here due to a matter of evening out the record sides or prolonging the "journey".The actual tracks will not be mentioned, as there is simply so much joy to sit or dance through. All aspects of modern techno are touched. Things get tough, things slow down a notch. Tracks get their industrial flavor on in one moment and then you are confronted with examplary melodic sweeps the next. Best thing is, virtually any given cut here will shine on the dance floor. Best thing, it will shine just as bright in a completely different setting, such as that of your living room. This was unquestionably one of my finest purchases of 2017, and my two cents are that missing out and/or ignoring this album is a daft decision.

Sometimes you see releases with TONS of likes but they sound about meh, this one is a true masterpiece and I can't really understand why so few people like it.Anyway, very good release at a really fair price. Recommended!
