Reviews:
  • Nnulam
was this done from the master tapes or from vinyl?
  • Mave
REENO was this done from the master tapes or from vinyl? Same audio as the one from Melodies International, so vinyl.
  • Nuliax
Excerpt from the zine accompanying the record: "The master tapes for this record were destroyed many years ago, so this record has been mastered from multiple copies of original 12" we have been sourcing for the past 4 years............Please note: The guitar distortion the opening and closing of "Open Soul" is present in all copies we had leading us to believe this is either in the recording, or original pressing."
  • Jugore
Right channel guitar distortion... agree with kkdoo... especially audible during the intro phase of the track. Besides that simply a gorgeous piece of music!
  • Voodoozragore
Right channel guitar distortion on Open Soul is too pronounced. No go.
  • Varshav
Just got my copy and I now agree. Is it the pressing? Off to listen to video clips made from original record, I guess?
  • Doukasa
If the original presses had it then it's not a problem at all, it's minor distortion and goes away after the intro bit. if anything adds some good old vinyl rawness. Definitely still a go.
  • Uris
I was aware. Hadn't been mentioned here though so worth me pointing out.
  • Winenama
It was mentioned: "The master and multitrack tapes were destroyed over 20 years ago and so this LP has been restored and mastered from multiple copies of the original pressing. In all the copies, we notice some slight distortion in the right channel of the opening guitar solo to "Open Soul" which we believe must be present as a pressing artefact."
  • Diredefender
why the cover has to be this ugly :-(the original is so nice
  • Shezokha
Ahh!! Understood buddy thank you for the information ????????????????
  • Ballagar
@ Jakinabox: that's a reissue on a different label in a different country (Japan). Not sure if it's legit or not.
  • Juce
And yet they kept the original cover on the CD reissue?? Go figure :((
  • Zadora
I agree.... Just do a high quality scan of the original cover, front and back.
  • Dandr
draeke: probably because music and cover artwork come from different artists having different copyrights.
  • Arakus
I wonder why it was difficult to license the cover and not the music itself, quite mysterious. But thanks so much for reissuing this gem!
  • Jockahougu
+1. A bit of a shame, this cover is lamer than a packet of crisps. P-Vine Records doesn't seem to have had any issues licencing the original artwork.
  • Ranenast
Original cover is copyrighted and it was very difficult to license it and print, thats why they changed concept, sorry...
  • Shakataxe
@vinylbargainking.Why your wife doesn't like original covert art? I'm also a girl & I can't feel offended here...cover artwork is also part of the concept (nude,freedom,70s,audacity...)why we can't have the entire lot ??.For sure this is a less appealing cover artwork ( music isn't just about the music...).But anyway I agree,I'm also very thankful for this great effort/amazing reissue : our sincere thanks to Sam Shepherd /Floating Points (Melodies International)for this gift (!).Amicalement :-)
  • Xava
My wife actually prefers new one so do I - and it's all about music so stop bloody moaning
  • Bragis
Cover is not ugly,it is well thinking about, that's for sure !!!
  • Molotok
because original cover is under strict law, say thanks to Floating Points for repressing this gem..
  • Akisame
Important to mention: the reissue is being done from multiple copies of the original pressing - the master tapes were apparently destroyed 'more than 20 years ago' according to the piece on RA.
  • Monam
This has become commonplace lately. Will not buy. Thanks.
  • It's so easy
damn, who destroys master tapes. music is cultural heritage... same sad story with all the great zamrock artists!
  • Tenius
Great tune also "lovers to friends" cover of Satagans Fav' tune ...https://www.discogs.com/fr/Satagans-Smokin-Lovers-To-Friends/release/4972025
  • Rrd
OMG… if you have the last Melodies International 'zine (aka Floating Points re-edit label)…(https://www.discogs.com/Aged-In-Harmony-Youre-A-Melody/release/8846793) there might be something happening… ;-)
  • Datrim
Spotted this too, can't be anything other than this record!
