Jaga Jazzist is a 9-piece Norwegian jazz ensemble. Their music is just about as sick as you would expect a 9-piece Norwegian jazz ensemble’s music to be. I consider them as a jazz band mainly because their name includes the word (jazz), but their music is so diverse that it’s pretty much impossible to classify their sound. Good thing classifications are irrelevant to your ability to enjoy the music! Dreamy synths, catchy drumlines, smooth saxophones, heavy guttering brass, and delicate strings will entertain your ears, tickle your tonsils, and bemuse your brain. Sometimes 9 people playing somewhat contradictory instruments really loudly all at the same time can turn into a mess, and unfortunately that happens a bit in the second half of this album. Some of the songs lack direction and lead themselves and the listeners either nowhere or everywhere. The songs where they take a little more of a minimalist approach really shine though, and the way they make so many instruments work together is awesome.http://keepinmusicclassy.com
