Respectfully I think those complaining about these being cassettes may be overlooking the significance of the cassette format in DIY culture throughout the years and that these albums were originally released by Laraaji on cassette - because he was self-releasing music at this point in his life. So they are simply being re-issued in the format they were initially released in. They never existed on vinyl or CD. Plenty of people still buy, collect and listen to tapes and, at the very worst, this is an homage to their original format not "hipster bs". That said I'd personally like to see a vinyl reissue of these albums to go along with this and I suppose a CD but if they are selling a digital download that might arguably not be necessary at this point. I'm not going to try to argue that tapes are the best quality format, I doubt anyone would. And I agree a vinyl and perhaps a CD version of this set is warranted in addition to the cassettes. But it makes total sense to me that these tapes were reissued as tapes, because they've only ever been tapes.

Can't believe people are actually trying to argue that cassettes are "hifi" (these recordings are far from hi-fi in any case). I mean, I *like* cassettes; I have nothing against them, but yes they do 'suck' ;-)

The two posters below aren't aware that this was also released digitally. And never released on "bs" vinyl.

Why isnt this on cd? Believe it or NOT many of us STILL purchase digital music on those shiny silver discs even in the 21st century.......hint hint.....Enough of the vinyl b.s. already!

All of the individual cassettes are available from WAV on Leaving Records' bandcamp for a total sum of $18 before tax. If you purchase this compilation from Stones Throw you are given a complete download of 320kbps mp3s. I would argue that this release is aimed at either those who enjoy collecting analog media as art objects or people who prefer the 'tape sound,' while digital remains intangible and more highly portable. Also, Connecting With The Inner Healer Through music would have to be either cut down or split between two separate CDs - much more costly overall than simply hosting a file of equal quality.

Great music but cassettes suck. one two three four five

I'm saying I do not miss the medium at all. Doing cassette releases is trendy hipster bulls**t.
  • Iriar
Are you saying the quality of cassettes suck in general or that of those in this release specifically?
