My copy of the 2009 Fat Possum Records release was riddled with surface noise from the first time I played it after taking it out of the shrink wrap. It plays like an old beat-up record. The surface noise is so distracting I have trouble listing to it and feel like I'm just going to have to buy another one (on a different label). Has anyone else experienced this issue with this release?

Mine is flawed but not as bad as that. When I opened it I was horrified by the scuff marks and cloudy patches all over it, which usually means lots of surface noise. But I was relieved to find it plays quietly. But then, side 4 is pressed badly off center. The wow effect isn't too bad since there are not a lot of long sustained notes in this music, but there are moments where it sounds like Townes is tuning his guitar while he's playing. Fat Possum claims they are trying their best. Well my advice is to use a different press than Rainbo or whatever shit press this comes from. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will gladly pay a few bucks more for a good reliable pressing instead of every purchase being a gamble. You're not saving money when people start avoiding your label.

Same here, pretty awful pressing, had it washed a couple of times but it didn't get any better. It's really a shame, since the album is absolutely fantastic. I'm thinking about getting the german version on Charly. I have Townes' self-titled album on the same label - really nice pressing so I would expect it to be significantly better than the Fat Possum pressing.
