Notes

This band came together and felt immediately comfortable with that new exciting energy but still familiar.

I've been making music with Mark for over 12 years, and he's become like my New Jersey older brother who gives great advice and is deeply warm but will rib you when necessary. He's a master musician who is constantly evolving and growing, and it's been inspirational to play together in a number of different settings.

Hamin Honari and I have played music for over 15 years. We've grown together and I've seen him develop into an amazing, versatile, well-rounded, masterful musician. Right from the beginning he always had soul and it speaks no matter what he is playing.

Hank and I met just a few years ago but it feels like I've known him for a long time too. That may be because he is so warm and inviting as a human being, but it might also be because I've been listening to him play since I was in high school through his work with Bill Frisell, as well as at 1067, Vancouver's long-gone artist-run space where I learned to play free music. His collective with Tim Berne and Joey Baron, Miniature, was a constant in their CD player, the intro and intermission of each concert.

This band feels like it's been in the works for a long time and that it marks the culmination of my development on the oud. I feel connected to the tradition but am using the instrument to speak my own language. I'm extremely excited about this music and honoured that these musicians are playing with me. I hope you enjoy it.
