The version of this CD I have has different artwork than what Discogs displays. The recording quality is pretty good, and the drums (courtesy of the late Ricky Lawson) have a nice ambience on them. I don't like some of the arrangements they introduced into the set at this point in time though. For example, Monkey In Your Soul has been "smooth jazzed," and is totally devoid of the vibe of the studio version from the Pretzel Logic album. There's no fuzz bass, and Walter Becker, who is of course not as good a singer as Donald Fagen, sings. Dirty Work is sung entirely by the backing singers. I never understood why Fagen had such an aversion to singing this song, seeing as the studio version features David Palmer, the live versions from 1974 feature Royce Jones, and some of the even more recent performances have featured people like Bonnie Raitt and Phoebe Snow. Perhaps Fagen finds the lyrics trite.
