In 1979 Industrial Records imprinted a format, and founded one of the first ever truly independent record labels. Their controversial identity, fusing extreme lo-fi production with heavily taboo subject material, prompted outrage and garnered a controversial reputation that still stands. Whilst Industrial Records deconstructed in 1984, others have continued to map similar terrain. O:M are dedicated industrialists, completely without any formal musical training, driven by the desire to return industrial music to its experimental and electronic synthesis. For three years they have recorded in NYC and New Jersey, clanging and banging their way through a trailer load of metal objects at various abandoned locations. The results, combining to form a triptych of three acts, blur the theoretical division between music and noise. The form and content become as one, consumed into a macabre collage of incidental noises. ‘Transkommunication’ is allegedly the science of transforming the energy of the dead into an audio-visual image.
