Light out of Fildon

Fantastic selection - one of the best (if not THE best, for my tastes) in the series. Inclusion of tracks like Gaussian Curve and Tony Palkovic go toward what I believe is Dam's overall goal of crafting an atmosphere for the listener to bathe in, making it more about the experience of the music than just the beats or mixing. Of course, there are some true jams included here: Randell & Schippers, Index, Take 3 and Henning stand out, and the Gemini track is a nice foray into that time when Boogie bled into early House (although from 1997).Admittedly the full track selection available as part of the digital download goes farther than the vinyl toward properly constructing this atmosphere (and is sequenced a bit more cohesively), but the vinyl is a prize if for nothing other than posterity.My only demerit for the comp is the fact that Randell and Schipper's 'Love Jam' is edited down to a measly ~4 minutes - not by means of an actual edit (Moodymann what up), but by parachuting the listener in on the track some 8-minutes mid-funk. !K7 could have gone with stretching this to 3 plates in order to allow inclusion of the full track, as it is a total (love) jam, and it is disheartening that they did not do so.As for the actual mix, that is another story. I am a long-time fan of Dam, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around his mixing here.

Great funk/soul selections but I was intrigued by the inclusion of Gaussian Curve and Gemini tracks. Packaging is nice, and the pressing is good. Thumbs up!
