Kudos to Oldfield and Warner for releasing this beauty. Approximately 30 minutes in length, it’s a 15 minute trippy stomper with little resemblance to the original, a 10 minute beatless reprise and a 4 minute radio edit of the latter which, to be fair, was never getting played on the radio. Easy to forget in 1992 the Orb shared the best album Brit Award with Simply Red because the BPI didn’t want to seem completely out of touch with the kids. It seemed ridiculous then as it does now. Blame the KLF, maybe they were worried about Alex Paterson going one better than firearms and a bloodbath. Jean Michel Jarre did much the same in 1997 with Oxygene but bottled it. Either way, wrapped in a TDR cover it’s the coolest Tubular Bells has been since The Exorcist or ever will be again.
