Notes

Released in a digipack, with full-colour wrap around cover.

The speeches in Track 8 are overlayed translations of a passage from Paul Bowles' novel, The Sheltering Sky :

"Because we don’t know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."

Video about Ryuichi Sakamoto - Async

Reviews:
  • Via
absolutely stunning album. i listened to it in its entirety while walking thru a tbilisi fortress and it was...a life changing experience. mr. sakamoto said that he intended to make an album that sounds like the soundtrack to a tarkovsky movie that does not exist....i think he more than achieved that with this album.
  • Narder
For an insight into how this album was made, you can watch Coda the documentary about Sakamoto. He has got that incessant artist creative nature that cannot be abated.
  • Sat
Wish this was on vinyl. Loving what I've heard thus far.
  • Arashilkis
It is on vinyl from Milan Records and Commmons, the original Japanese label.
  • nadness
Milan is releasing it on vinyl in the US, September 8th .
  • Kulalbine
A mesmerizing though unsettling ambient record that really grips the listener. The soundscapes are much like the cover art; seemingly simple yet abstract, but take a closer look and you can see there is all kinds of stuff happening beyond first glance, or apprehension.
