Someone please add the "Matrix / Runout" of this version. This edition seems very similar to r1307898.

This is a fantastic album, one of the best renditions of The Pusha to ever hit my ears.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHO IS THE DRUMMERRRRRR!?!?!?!?!!? Cant find it anywhere online :(
  • Olwado
... and the drummer..... is....... Don Alias (have to insert ten words so...)

Funkier than a Mosquito's Tweeter !!!Nina Simone at her funky best with a mindbomb of vocals. Check out the drummer on this jazzy number !!! A real treat. Check out Gordysgroovesuk for a copy.

Music-wise, this is a fantastic Nina Simone album, but the "thicker" 2004 reissue on vinyl should definitely be avoided. Compared to the original (and authentic) RCA Dynaflex pressing, this reissue sounds like it was pressed on cardboard and mastered from poor quality MP3s! I don't know what the later 180 gram vinyl reissue sounds like, but I sure hope it's better than the 2004 version!

I respect Nina Simone as an artist, but I can't pretend liking the Jazz genre or all of her songs. With that said, I have listened to all of her albums and so far I am down to 15 tracks of hers that I enjoy going back to. One of them is "Dambala", possibly my favorite Nina Simone track. She delivers a mesmerizing performance where few artists can match in a live recording. You don't have to be into Jazz to appreciate this track. In fact this is more Avantgarde Soul than Jazz. The lyrics, the mood, the atmosphere is just perfect. It's the type of song that reaches the darkest corners of your soul. Although I don't revisit the other tracks from this album, I can listen to "Dambala" over and over and every time it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Just don't expect to find this track in any Nina Simone's Best Of compilation, it is dark and thought provoking which practically makes it too un-commerical for the masses to enjoy!Consider these lyrics and then press play on the video to the right. On the seventh day God will be thereOn the seventh night Satan will be thereYou slavers will knowWhat it's like to be a slaveSlave to your heartSlave to your soulYou slavers will know what itsLike to be a slaveSlave to your mindSlave to your raceYou won't go to heavenYou won't go to hellYou remain in your gravesWith the stench and the smell

EXUMA yes.. The original is pretty folksy and ethnic, Lots of percussion, but other than the message the song gives, a million miles away from Simone´s chilly performance. Simone stole songs.. in a good way. She made the songs her own in her unique way. Dambala is just one of many many..

Coincidentally Exuma also wrote "Obeah Man", the basis for her "Obeah Woman".

Pretty sure "Dambala" was written by Bahamian singer Exuma. His version is pretty amazing as well and he's certainly one of a kind.

Such an amazing album and recording. I feel like this might be her best.
