I recently went back through some of my Code Red back catalog, and realized how I had totally forgotten about the beauty of the B2 track. The remainder of the 12" is, well, obsolete at best, but the closing number...An easy floating drummy tribal workout which hits around only after the three minute mark, but not with off setting beats, it is through enchanting strings, shimmering Detrit chords and a gliding pad, which slowly enable the music's metamorphosis: from yet another deceiving blind crystal clear Drumcode on a softer tip journey to an almost old school trance like gem. A simple, well structured melodic passage absolutely pushes forward and levitates to a whole new level what began as yet another tune on this well executed, if not flat and uninspired four tracker. One thing I tend to notice about these Code Red vinyls is how most of them have one hall of fame track and the other three to polish its shoes and tie the laces. If you like the B2 number here, it is as good and stand out as, for example, the B2 Marco Carola contribution on [CODE RED 06], the B2 track on [CODE RED 08], the joint Beyer-Mull collaboration A1 track on [CODE RED 7] or the B1 on Joel Mull's [CODE RED 02]. In my opinion, just like all those EPs, [CODE RED 05] lacks an overall injection of quality and ideas to get a higher vote, and earn its place on the top shelf, along the Conceiled Project and Thomas Krome releases, but I have yet to regret dropping the needle on B2. A proper classic on this short lived label, if there ever was one!
