Video about Substance - Session Elements

Reviews:
  • Coiron
Substance’s Session Elements falls easily under the Chain Reaction label, with its minimalistic attitude (“Plate Element 1,” for example, consists almost entirely of clicks). “Skippah,” on the other hand, sounds condensed and paranoid, like something from a chase scene in a horror movie; “Sensualize” adds cymbal hisses so that you feel like you’re in a snake pit. “As” has a stretched, vocoder sample over some dubbed-out tones, while “Pb” and “Relish Wildlife Reshape” have more aggressive rhythms. At times, Substance seems even more minimal than other Chain Reaction releases, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Still, a very good album.
