The overall feeling you get after listening to this album is one of longing. I can't help but long for the days when Hip Hop records were fun like 2 All Serious Thinkers. The first joint "UB Style (Extended)" has the MC busting some fresh one-liners over an incredible sample for close to five minutes. Though "Bring Back the Funk" may be a bit more uptempo than what most of today's listeners are used to the funky sample will eventually suck you in; and trust me you will find yourself pop-locking and singing "Bring Back the Funk. The Whole Funk. Nothing but the Funk." the next time you're bored at work. There are quite a few dope tracks on this LP, "Mail it Frosty" has one of the nicest samples you will ever hear. Spectact has a very ill flow, alongside his excellent vocab and New York swagger you find yourself listening to one of the best MCs you've never heard of. The concept of "Intermission" is one of the best ever put to wax. The banging beat will keep your head knocking the whole 2:57; for some reason I always get this song stuck on repeat, I wonder why? That is immediately followed by "Hard Day" which has a great sample and yet another excellent concept behind it. "You Treat Me Right" is another song that you'll find yourself singing when your by yourself, very catchy; and for all you Masta Ace fans you'll hear some recognizable strings. The title track finds the UBC using a sick sample for the hook and more of Spectact ripping the mic. "We Get Lifted" is yet another track that just seems to get stuck on repeat; dope drum break and more ill flows from Spectact. The end of the album has The UBC embarking on antoher uptempo journey. I would just like to convey that though the album was released in 1990 at the "height" of New Jack Swing music, 2 All Serious Thinkers is straight boom bap. The MCs spit something that means something in every track. They also know that life needs to be enjoyed and that feeling is felt in every song. You can tell that they had fun putting this album together.
