Video about Biosphere - Microgravity

Dark, cold vintage sounds and ruthless, deep bass is what makes this album appealing. Original simplicity. Whereas ambient techno albums later of that decade serves warm, organic sounds, Microgravity is cold, ominous even. It's as much about hypnotic bass riffs as rich, spooky soundscapes. Ultimately trance inducing music.

Back when Biosphere's MICROGRAVITY was originally released, it was groundbreaking: a mix of techno and ambient, with a dark tinge to it. Twenty years later, it still holds up pretty well, even if some of the samples feel dated. The icy darkness of the title track lulls the listener into a trance, while "Baby Satellite" does the same, but with a beat this time. "Tranquillizer" merges the two together in a calming, yet still beat-driven track. A hint of Jenssen's old band, Bel Canto, appears on "Cygnus-A," which shares some of the same synth pads as "The Glassmaker" (from the BIRDS OF PASSAGE album). And while "Baby Interphase" reprises much of "Baby Satellite," it does offer a slightly heavier bass. But the stand-out track for me, however, is the icy and eerie "Cloudwalker II." It carries an air of mystery, enhanced by the processed-Native American flute fluttering through it (the final track reintroduces this eerieness). Still a classic.

Biosphere's greatest, as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely beautiful, sublime electronic music. Warm, luscious textures mixed with old-school beats. Favorite tracks include "Tranquilizer," "The Fairy Tale," and "Baby Interphase." If I could give this a 6, I would.

Biosphere does energy! While it may sound a little crude technically to some, it's still a very enjoyable listen. Jenssen mixes some of that high energy they only really knew how to do in the early 90's with the nascent beginnings of his later sound, for an altogether intelligent and danceable record.

''Can we make it back to earth?' ''It's a decision of course'.. ''it's yours'... High tech dance music by Geir Jenssen. One of the early ambient techno albums from the 90's Beautiful dark music with a lot of space samples. A year before Microgravity (AMBcd 3921), he released Northpole by Submarine as Bleep (SSR). Do you hear the difference? :) Follow up release on Apollo is Selected Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin (AMBcd 3922) Be aware of the classics! Essential for collectors of classic material.
