n 1976, erotic disco was all the rage. Andrea True (R.I.P) had a major hit with "More More More", Cerrone had a sex fest with his "Love In C Minor" album and the reverberations from Giorgio and Donna's 1975 "Love To Love You Baby" hit were still being felt around the world. It was one year before he would hit the disco big time with "From Here To Eternity", two before "Chase" and the "Midnight Express" soundtrack and three before "E=mC2". I was pleasantly surprised to find this album on cd. Released this year by Reportoire Records, it has great mastering, the original artwork, and four bonus versions, of which "Let The Music Play" is the most worthy. Now for the album...as I said, it oozes sex. "Knights" is an update of the Moody Blues classic song and Giorgio turns on the sleaze with delicious strings by Mike Thatcher, lots of funky organs and heavy breathing. It runs into the cleverly titled "Middle Of The Knight", an original Moroder composition that itself runs back into the remainder of "Knights". It took up the whole A-side in it's original carnation. It is funky, sexy and catchy. Over on "side B", we open with "L'Amour", where Giorgio turns up the heavy breathing and sexy suggestions, it would have fitted perfectly in any lovers bedroom of the time. The strings are delightful, and there is a cooing sax here too. "Sooner Or Later" has the most removed sound from the other tracks and is one that is still growing on me. Last is "I Wanna Funk With You Tonite", a popular club song and for good reason: this track is a lot of fun, with sexy yet tongue in cheek lyrics, a whole lot of innuendo, darting strings, synth and a whole lot of funk. The artwork is fantastic. "Knights", "Oh L'amour" and "I Wanna Funk" are offered in single versions, though I don't see the point really. However the "Oh L'amour" version runs 5.20 and I'm still working out whats different. Repertoire appears to be a mainly rock oriented reissue company; a glance at its website reveals this is the only disco release, but one that is definitely worth having, if you are a fan of Giorgio, electronic disco, lush strings, music for making lurve or EuroDisco.
