Horsepower (Original mix) All about the drugs at 44secs. Still remember the first time hearing it to this day! Unreal. Still makes the hairs stand up.

One of the very best 12"s R&S ever released. Both "Horsepower" mixes are fantastic, powerful techno, but it's "Mindwar" that's the stand out track on this 12". These tunes never get old, the production is first class on all tracks.
  • Bloodhammer
your right on that one! they never get old they just get better with age ;)

Both the original and remix of Horsepower still sound amazing today is it did 26 years ago. Such a powerful tune! This was purest of the Techno's sounds that came out back in the day. Pure Techno, pure energy, pure dance floor madness!! This was a tune that defined Techno or rather the evolution of Techno from its raw form in 1990. A must have for your collection if you don't have it already.

The remix of horsepower on this 12" is so far ahead of its time it's breathtaking,at least for me it is.at a time when we were still hearing early rave material such as bizarre inc and altern8 this was lurking in the background.but I guess that could be said about a hundred records from this time.i heard this on a mixtape back in '91 at the tender age of 12 and thought 'that! that's what I want to listen to'.so futuristic back then, and still sounds totally awesome.visceral, dark and full of energy.i don't recall hearing anything since that set my heart a flutter, though to be fair, some have come pretty close.this could easily have fitted into a trance or hardtrance set from the late 90's as something that just got released.

Have you heard Transmission by Arpeggiators? That was more of a Hard Trance tune but just as awesome and is still one of my all time faves along side Horsepower.

After going back through some of the R&S back catalogue, this EP definitely stands the test of time, along with many of the early releases on this label. Played a lot by DJs in the early 90's rave scene.

Fabulous release indeed. I also do like the other Ravesignals for other reasons aswell. Including most of CJ Bolland's early output. But are all copies of this UK pressing the same? After many, many years of not playing this record I decided to give it a whirl the other night and confirmed a vague memory I had of it a long time ago. Also, had a conversation about it with someone a few years back but can't remember who, probably on one of the forums.. Anyway, the original mix on my copy slows right down and then speeds up before fading out at the end. Is it a faulty press or an intentional quirk? Causes havoc if you're in the middle of a mix! Can't remember if the Belgian issue contained this anomaly or not, so will have to locate my other copy sooner or later to compare... EDIT: Well, I managed to locate the original Belgian press in amongst my collection, and yes it also slows right down before speeding up to its original tempo again and then speeds all the way up as it fades out. Also, thanks to the reviewer for previously confirmed the quirk :-)

The version of this track on Underworld 'Back to mine' slows and then speeds up again, so I'd say it's safe to say your vinyl is probably ok. :)

There are no filler tracks on this e.p. however, my favourite is 'Mindwar', a gorgeous melt-in-the-ears slice of techno-electro moodiness.

As anyone who was in the rave scene back in those days will testify, much of the music was gradually getting faster and harder. And I, for one, had no problem with that :) Unfortunately, this meant that my standard Technics setup was no longer good enough. So it was this release, and particularly the track "Mindwar", which made me alter my SL1210s to pitch up to +16 instead of the standard +8 - and they stayed this way until they were sold in the mid-2000s :) A necessary move to accompany the harder sounds I was increasingly listening to (and eventually ended up playing out)!In my opinion, definitely one of the best R&S releases, and gave us a good idea of where at least some of the UK's rave scene was heading at the time. Alongside tunes like "Vamp" and "Energy Flash", it's an essential release for anyone interested in early Belgian techno.

The finest release from R&S in my opinion. Well ahead of its' time and sounds great through a high-end set up.

Probably the best release by CJ Bolland. Horsepower is a true techno classic which has and will rock the floor on any and every occassion. Both mixes on this 12" are equally as good. The B side also rocks with the killer techno track Mindwar which is a dark as they come. Respect to CJ for this 12"

HORSEPOWER (remix) is euro tech at its best.. Bolland's best work in my opinion. The original mix is great, but this mix is PERFECT.. Sends shivers up my spine every time I hear it.. One of the best intro's in a track ever... Worth buying it if you do not have it...

The best copy of "Ravesignal III' to get. This has not been re-issued and does contain a remix of "Mindwar" not found anywhere else.
