Not only is this one of the best releases Cari Lekebusch has ever dropped, and the competition is ludicrous, it also ranks as one of the best 12" records I have ever heard the genre has to offer. This four tracker has absolutely everything that made techno interesting in the first place.Insanely loud and distorted trash can beats, overblown bass lines, demented, tweaked vocals, as though raving pagans of monolithic cultures were recorded on wax.The bass drop on Straffbas is bewildering and overwhelming. Petting Me´ T... boasts those electric eel synth lines to euphoric effect. Bråkstake is a techno excursion into the Brazilian jungle. Hela Inne is the ultimate, old school invigorating fist pounder to head nodder to involuntary foot tapper. There is so much to cherish here.Adventurous ideas, low pass filter sweeps, deranged sequences and a plain determination to simply go with whatever sounds good (or mad!) and press it onto wax. The end.Cari Lekebusch had no peers. Not because no one wanted to imitate. Because everyone who's heard his work gave up on the spot. There are times you just don't want to disappoint yourself. You know you've been outmatched before you even put on your boxing gloves.Cari's off the chain sound design was simultaneously wild, banging, ecstatic and just freaky. You would not know was it better to just stop and admire in awe, or dance the night away because who knew if you'd ever get to hear it again. As with a lot of the other early pioneers, his best material is today around two decades old, but the mere fact this still gets rotation might just be the best possible testament to its evergreen quality. Before I forget, to second what another reviewer already pointed out: "Hela Inne on a decent sound system is in my opinion, one of the greatest tracks I have ever heard." It is.To only think that Cari has recorded over a dozen releases this good is baffling. However, make me single out three, and this would probably be the first one I'd draw.

Reminds me of the type of trax Neil Landstrumm was doing around the same period or a little earlier. Great, mental, banging stuff..

This is, in my opinion, Cari Lekebusch's best 12" to date. It perfectly captures not only the rugged and experimental nature of the earlier Drumcode releases, but also Lekebusch's artistry and willingness to explore unusual track structure and highly distorted synth noises. "Straffbas" is the highlight of this release with its prolonged rumbling intro that unexpectedly launches into clipped hi hats, flanged noise, and an overwhelmingly heavy bass line. "Hela Inne" is another incredibly heavy track possessing one of Lekebusch's late 1990's trademark sounds that dominates the track. This is a very original and necessary release no DJ or lover of beautifully harsh techno should be without.
