For those who weren't there at the Acid House parties around the London area in 1989 it's hard to realise how big The Blow Out mix of this record was. It probably takes me back to those days more than any othwer record. And it wasn't just how synoymous it was with the times but the keyboarsds on this gave birth to an incalculable number of records after both in hardcore and in trance/hard house afterwards. To be honest I think an argument cam be made for this being one of the most influential tunes ever.

the "Landlord" stab is much different than the "Lets Get Brutal"/"Good Life" piano/keyboard. However Kevin much later used the "Landlord" stab (via SL2 "djs take control") for the 3Down "Deep Trip" 12" in 1991; which is basically 4 different remixes of the SL2 track.

Yes. Kevin Saunderson definitely copied the keyboard riff (opposed to piano, doesn't sound like a proper piano to me) from Nitro Deluxe without a doubt. Though initially it took a while for the penny to drop. On the other hand, the actual sound of the Landlord stab compared to the previous two examples doesn't sound like them exactly. The Landlord stab sounds sharper, clearer, louder with more reverb. So not exactly the same. Sounds more like a distorted, plucked or strucked stringed, folk instrument ie dulcimer, harpsichord etc instead of a piano. Perhaps my ears have always been messed up though :P Incidental info: The original Landlord stab sound originated in a hardware synth from sometime during the early to mid 1980s, way before Landlord - I Like It (Blow Out Dub) was even made or released. FYI it isn't a piano and also has nothing to do with Bizarre Inc's "Playing With Knives" or related sounds - which happen to originate from another earlier piano track.

The mix here is the blow out dub although the others are good, it’s in a class of its own. How many tunes has the opening riff been in? Too many to mention and for some that’s tainted this track, but not for me and you can’t deny what a great tune this was / is. As soon as you hear that riff its hands in the air time and the crowd use to go mental, but I love the contrast from the full on synth riff to the sparse bass and percussion, a real warehouse classic that rocked all the clubs at the time and a big Hacienda tune. Brilliant tune and to think this was 1989 ! Bigshot was a great label, so its well worth checking out their other releases.

I don't know who came first, this blokes or Inner City. But their piano riffs are very similar. This classic can without a doubt be compared with 'Good Life', with that difference that you rarely hear this record on an evening out. This is one of that very early house records who stood the test of time.

THAT piano riff on the Blow Out Dub spawned a million other releases that 'interpreted' it in their own way. The piano stab itself must have got degraded down to about a 1000th generation sample by the time it had done the rounds, god knows how many other hardcore stabs since have been made out of this original sound?

One of the all time classic techno tracks, still sounds fresh today. This was heavily played out by likes of grooverider, ellis dee,dougal,etc back in 1990. The blow out dub being the standout track, which captures the true atmosphere of the warehouse scene.

One of the all-time house music classics - but that little bit more obscure than most of its counterparts. A piano riff that will be instantly familiar.
