Reviews:
  • Bukus
My copy sounds quite lovely, very warm and full. I had to clean it a few times to get the dirt and gunk off which was causing a good amount of surface noise. But I’m used to that now with new release vinyl, unfortunately....
  • Dibei
Mine sounds terrible. Can't even play it. Just so noisy. I'll have to clean it again.
  • Silver Globol
I'd love to know this too: Anyone with a copy of the Plain Recordings version and how the transfer sounds on their version!?
  • Doulkree
It was pressed at United Record Pressing in Nashville, TN. They have gotten a ton of complaints for noising pressings. If you see it pressed there, I would research the reviews first before buying it.
  • Agalas
Same here, mine actually had pitting side B but it didn't affect playback. Thankfully.
  • Micelhorav
I use a spin clean along with carbon fiber brush.
  • Berkohi
That is encouraging to hear. The fact that the recording came out on/is owned by Island Records (as opposed to 4AD) suggests that it is possible that some plant other than GZ Vinyl may have been used. I will have to send a few emails to try and find out. Good to hear that there are good copies out there!
  • Umi
How did you clean it? just a carbon fiber brush?
  • Gavinrage
Have you any idea where this was pressed? From your description I fear it may be GZ Vinyl in the Czech Republic (dirt, gunk, surface noise etc.) and if that is the case, I will stick with my CD version.

Anyone compare the SQ to the Plain Recordings 2009 release Red House Painters - Songs For A Blue Guitar?
  • Saintrius
Hooray, Plain Recordings reissues another classic album while using the original master tapes for that genuine, analog atmosphere. Right??? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Plain is INFAMOUS for not giving two craps about sound quality for their vinyl reissues. They've been known to just use CD rips to master them. Skeptical? Good! Do some research on Google and on Plain Recordings's page here on Discogs and see what people are saying about this incredible record label. My word of advice: never, EVER buy anything issued by Plain. They are a weaselly company that have an incredible talent at purchasing the rights to pressing beloved albums. They are not so talented at making them worth the purchase. Luckily, this record will be reissued by Island Records in August 2015. Please respect yourself and purchase that instead.

The Plain pressing doesn't sound much different than the recent Island pressing. Island really cheaped out on the cover, whereas the Plain release is really nice.

Yah, but this is BLUE! :)
