I Highly recommend this album. If you were let down by Season of Poison, this album, in many ways could be the 'next' album after We are Pilots. Bonus Tracks (My Reptile Friend & Stay Down) available on Itunes or Amazon should be purchased as well for the full Thirteen Track experience. Having listened to the tracks the band released as singles I am somewhat confused why the left what seems like the stronger tracks (speaking japanese) to be released on the album. Every track is a hand crafted gem.

There are two main types of STG fans: Those who like the first album, We Are Pilots, and those who like the second album, Season of Poison. There are substantial differences in the style of the two LP's. A few, like me, love them both. Some of the fans are simply loyal to Carah Faye, who has returned for this third installment from STG. The third album, 'III', promised to be a return to the style of 'We Are Pilots' - that is, more of the electronic/dance and less of the guitar-driven retro-rock of 'Season of Poison'. But 'III' is anything but a step backward. The tracks are gorgeous and rich. The production is very slick (as it is on both of their earlier albums), it certainly sounds like STG with Carah. Writing-wise it's a little on the slow side with more softer tracks than one would expect. The standouts from the album were mostly available prior to release (Waiting Alone, The Sun, and Fading Listening). The LP version of 'If I Lost You' is stunningly beautiful, and Carah's vocals in it are quite moving. Her voice has always been a treat to anyone who listened to first LP and early recordings. Anyone who knows this band knows that their sound always instills an odd sense of nostalgia in the listener. Their writing has an 80's sensibility to it while not coming across as contrived in exactly that way. It's really amazing, musically. A bit of an anomaly in today's industry...there are plenty of bands out there who strive for that sound, yet don't quite hit it - while STG seems to effortlessly exude it with perfect pitch. If there's any complaint about this album, it's that it sorely lacks both the intense danciness of their first LP and the guitar-driven rock of the second. So expectations will be slightly shattered, but it's ok, because...the shards are so shiny.
