I am pretty astounded with this release. When I saw this on RSD, I was pretty sure I would buy it simply based on the artwork, recognizing some of the great players, and the fact that it was advertised as having been mastered from the original analog tapes. I was a little surprised to see when searching Jazz Dispensary that they released a whole series the last two years to apparently no real fanfare. The musicians on those interested me a little less and they all had plain covers with the Jazz Dispensary logo....Well, I am just now finishing my first listen and what a terrific package! I don't necessarily love colored vinyl, but this one looks great with the cover and insert design and sounds wonderful. The tracks are relatively short — with the exception of the Idris Muhammad penned closer featuring Melvin Sparks and some other top players of the genre like Clarence Thomas and Harold Maburn. Most importantly, the record has a full analog sound with excellent soundstage, even on my modest setup. Thank you Rudy Van Gelder and thank you Jazz Dispensary!

Yes I agree and recommend this pressing to anyone who appreciates this genre.

Totally agree. I grabbed the entire series and am quite pleased (though the Christmas edition has only been played once).
