The debut single from the wonderful Lighthouse Keepers from Sydney, Australia. The original release came with hand painted and hand stamped covers making each copy unique. The artwork on each is quite different as evidenced by the covers uploaded here on Discogs. The A side is probably the highlight, but I do like the songs on the B side which have that ramshackle charm that is the Lighthouse Keepers sound. I was lucky enough to see the band perform for free on countless occasions on the 2nd floor of the Trade Union Club or down the road at the Southern Cross Hotel (later renamed the Strawberry Hills Hotel) Incidentally, the photo on the back cover of Tales of the Unexpected is taken at the Southern Cross. Steven Williams, the drummer, was originally in the Particles and Stephen O'Neil later founded the Cannanes playing guitar and singing. Two more excellent and unique Australian bands.Greg and Juliet later re-emerged as the Widdershins with a similar sound, but a touch more polish. At their final show at the Manning Bar, Sydney Uni. Greg and Juliet swapped vocals on two songs - Greg sang Gargoyle and Juliet sang March of the Green Men. It was a touching moment and a few of us long time fans who appreciated the history behind the gesture were wiping away our tears. The original single occasionally appears for sale at quite high prices, but the 2nd issue without the hand painted sleeve is much easier to find and less pricey. Rating: WTD (worth tracking down)
