Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this was a major let down. Cynics argue that Rudi is now pumping out a diluted replica of the same old material, and far too quickly. Optimists argue that, like many an artist that started off angry and sinister, he's simply mellowing out. To be honest I find it difficult to describe what I didn't like about this. I suppose none of the tracks truly gripped me and I felt that the whole album was somewhat overproduced. At the risk of sounding overly abstract, what I truly missed in this release was a powerful sense of emotion. Where is the aggression, despair, fatalism and longing? It all gravitated to an unimaginative sort of middle ground. I feel that all releases should be judged on their sole merit, but this is difficult to do when we all know that Rudi is capable of making music that makes you feel what one magazine called "the emotional k hole... on Music For A Slaughtering Tribe".
