Not the best Steve Bailey has to offer if I may add. Don't get me wrong though. None of it stinks, but none of it shines either, especially when one reminisces his body of work.Things kick off with We Believe,a track that in all fairness and honesty sounds like a Regis tune circa 1995. That stubborn loop you hear throughout, it bears a resemblance to an old Downwards classic called Speak To Me. Other than the incessant looping around and a fairly run of the mill break, there's not much to go for here, and there certainly isn't enough ideas floating around here to validate seven minutes of running time.Blood Purity is my pick here. Heavily off beat, and keeping it nice and dense throughout to keep things interesting and in constant rotation. Add the nervous sphere descending some two minutes deep and you're ready to do business. It does not stop here though. Little bit and pieces are tossed into the mix. Insectoid, buzzing, puzzling. All in all, a mighty fine odd number, coated in those lovely crooked drums. Although this is a fine tune, it is by no means an achievement of any sort, as Makaton has poured plenty of these - far better - throughout his career.Now, Reclamation suffers from a disease many who deal in techno music have acquired: aimlessly plodding on.There is nothing wrong with it per se. The bass is quirky. The beats are fine and refined. Plus you get your usual dose of techno music spice (echo, reverb, hiss, burps and blips). But it all goes nowhere. Too faint to invigorate a party and too deflated to captivate your attention for a full blown living room listening session. The core elements this track was built around are quite generic. Meaning, there's not much you can fault, but there's even less for you to enjoy.There To Here (Noise) is a sixty second, noisy interlude, that I have hardly an interest in.Overall, it's a pleasure to see Makaton back and actively producing. Plus he's doing it with some of the best in the business (Blueprint). Hence my disappointment with this release. He has done better, he can do better, and we want to see it.
