Kurt and Frank was right, best album ever. Ok to be pretty honest, this is the best "worst" album ever lol. But creating all this dissonance and disharmony (and a total horror look), kinda be some pretty genius in this case. The shaggs are in the posterity right now, daddy wiggins can be proud of these daughters...

I don't need a history lesson on outsider music or the Shaggs, thank you. I was aware of them 25 yrs. ago. And I'm not hating on you or anyone else who cares to buy their albums. I'm not even hating on the Shaggs. I just want people to be completely honest here, the story of the Shaggs is far more interesting and endearing, and palatable than the music. Instead of explaining what makes them outside tell me how anyone can listen and enjoy any part of this album if it's all about the music and only the music as "outsider" is supposed to be. Cause if it's just the fact that they bought some instruments and recorded an album for the pure love of it anyone can do that and that doesn't make it special. Can't you learn to play your instruments and still be considered "outside"? Cause if not, then by definition anyone who picks up an instrument and plays is outsider music up to the moment they actually learn how to play. Good day sir!!! P.S. I hope you know this is all in good fun. I love music deeply and to do so I believe you have to be open to everyone's opinion and taste whether you like it or not or you completely missed the boat on the point of enjoying music and you're no longer enjoying it anymore and should stick your head in a basket of poisonous snakes of your choosing. (deep breath) And I would much rather listen to the Shaggs than any top 40 billboard station any day. Believe me I get it. They still aren't any good.

Don't buy this! I think Kurt and Frank were just effing with main stream media and people bought into it. Listen to the Raincoats or The Uriinals! At least they took the time to learn their instruments! Cmon.

lol, you don't need to tell someone who is disagreeing with you that "it's ok to disagree"—they're kind of demonstrating that in disagreeing with you.

Also, yes it is 'just 3 girls whose dad needed alcohol money and forced them to make a record' but that's what makes it outsider, inability and lack of proper understanding to play instrument or abbilitiy of proper 'poppy' lyrical writting makes it outsider. This is for a fact the purest outsider art. Outsider art means art made by someone 'outside' of the current trends, so far away that the art feels unacceptable or just too different and has no target audience as of the date of its release. This is art that has no target audience, that was made for no one but themselves. There's nothing like this from 1969 except for Captain Beefheart's widely acclaimed Trout Mask Replica which honestly is ironic and funny how this record is pretty much nearly the same as Beefheart's masterpiece but it was made unawarely. Obviously, its fair to disagree, im not a hipster i just love outsider art of all kinds and this record is praised for being 'so bad that its good' (although i wouldn't agree that its bad), of course Zappa might've been just making a joke but for the case of Kurt if you'd know his music taste you could easily understand that this record wasn't out of place in that list. Anyway, cheers! have a lovely day if you'll ever see this ^w^

This is just 3 girls who dad needed alcohol money and forced them to make records. Listen to the clean or moldy peaches. That's outsider music. We don't all have to be hipsters and it's ok to disagree. Cheers

they weren't you just don't get outsider music which is understandable because its not meant for everybody

The Shaggs. Nothing like them before or after. They perfected their own oddly syncopated and detuned style. People will say it's off and people will hate.. but they are so genuine and beautiful.

This is one of the records a lot of people want to own (thanks Kurt, thanks Frank) but won't listen twice in a decade... Shaggs outsider music deserves better !
  • Thoginn
Kurt Cobain shot himself in the head after listening to this audio dreck!!!
  • Coiriel
Kurt and Frank Zappa both loved this brilliantly unhinged record

I don't really know how to tell the 1980 versions apart. I'm guessing this is the one I have. It one of the loudest records I have. The loudest parts are distorted. This has drier mix than the CD I have. It's neat to hear on vinyl, but it's more abrasive than the CD mix/master. I wonder if all the vinyl pressings of this album are so loud.
