Video about Mike Millius - Desperado

Reviews:
  • Ber
Millius emerged from the same Greenwich Village folk scene as Phil Ochs, and, like Ochs, was heavily involved with Broadside Magazine. Unfortunately, his best Broadside material (e.g. "The Ballad of Martin Luther King". "Hey, Mr. Rockefeller") wasn't included on his only LP, which was waxed for UNI Records in 1969. The producer Don Thomas deciced to saddle Millius with arrangements and background singers, which only served to make his vocals completely out-there. On his own with simple acoustic accompanyment, Millius sounded folksy and unique. Straining to be heard over this LP's production, he sounds like Bob Dylan. This is a very nice album and Millius achieved some recognition decades later when Beck sampled Desperado's "Lookout For Lucy".

Thanks for sharing, I never noticed the Beck sampling until after reading this. I had to go back and compare.
