This is closer to Rock music than to Industrial, with heavy leanings towards Punk. As such I find it hard to compare it to anyone I can think of. It’s not Thrash or anything like that - it chugs along at a variety of mid-speed tempos, occasionally slowing down to a more relaxed, mellow sound - more often bursting off at a faster, Thrashier burst of energy. “Codex CPX 48577” is medium paced, bright and colourful, as is “Vola E Vedrai” which shows them to be brilliant musicians using but not overstating Rock cliches. There's even a little rap in there towards the end. "Non Capiremo Mai” is closer to late 70’s Punk (pre-DISCHARGE etc). There are maybe elements of DEAD KENNEDYS although this is less harsh & ALBERTO PISANI’s voice is deeper, more mellow than BIAFRA’s. “Lei E' Tutto Per Lui”, while being quite clearly Rock based, has elements of Punk in it (particularly the plucky guitar bits). Some blistering guitar sounds give this track character. “Aspetta” heads of at a light gallop, having many of the elements which make PEGGIO so listenable - the bright, colourful firework bursts of guitar, the scratchy funk guitar well-hidden in the mix. "Corri Voce" has an even heavier Punk sound with the Wah Guitar sound which 70’s TV programme considered synonymous with American Black street life. If the music had been as bright and powerful as this, those appalling Cop programmes would have been so much more watchable. PEGGIO don’t crowd their tracks - they give them space to breathe. This is also one of the most memorable tracks. "Balla Con Noi" - again medium-paced, show their pyrotechnic musicianship to it’s best effect. "Ultimo Viaggio" is another of their more memorable tracks, this one with those sudden hectic tempo bursts typified in early Eighties Punk bands. "Momenti" has a full sound to it and is probably this reviewer’s favourite piece, changing tempo several times, full of spiralling guitar filigree. "Attraverso Lo Specchio" is yet another wonderful piece of Rock with a strong Funk tint & more than a drop of Punk.Difficult to describe without comparisons & I cannot think of any which are easily comparable to this sound, but if you’re interested I’ll tell you it’s a bright and colourful sound without compromising towards 'Poppiness'. All the tracks are sung in Italian (but then you guessed that, didn’t you), but still manage to come across as 'catchy’. Well worth seeking out if this is your 'bag'.Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
