The sound quality on my reissue copy makes me wonder if it was cut with the masters- it is very loud and crisp. The artists owned their tapes at Strata, so it is possible that Shamek Farrah had a hand in this reissue.

"First Impressions" is one of the very best tunes in the strata east catalogue, fantastic piece of free improvised groove jazz. The players are kind of doing there solos together at the same time, but never loose touch to that bassline groove, outstanding, free, but never too free, just really soulful interaction and a mysterious ancient vibe to it.IMO, this is the best tune on the LP, I never listened to the other ones in years.Q-Tip sampled this bassline for one of the A Tribe Called Quest records.Reissues without the "New York" address printed on the otherwise identical label fetched up to 300$ on ebay on a regular basis a couple of years ago, if you don't believe me, check out popsike, I believe this is, because people were not aware of the repress, which is definitely rare too. http://www.popsike.com/SHAMEK-FARRAHFIRST-IMPRESSIONS-1974-LP-RECORDNR-MINT/250608975817.htmlI bought my copy at the end of the 90ties at Soultrade Records and never (!) saw it again in any record store. The sound quality is good enough, but I never had a chance to compare to an original pressing.
