Not sure what to think about DOL, as many others here. Of course they use digital sources, as most other vinyl companies do these days. Compared to the 2008 Keepnews CD remaster, this sounds identical. And I would say that's a good thing. If you're looking for an affordable vinyl version and is happy with the remastered cd sound, this is a good buy. Pressing is good, and the source is certainly not from any mp3 files. B4 is take 3 by the way.

Very good sound quality and excellent vinyl making. One of the few modern reissues of the classics that you need to have in the collection. DMM technology is a great thing.

Anyone have the 1999 jvc Japan mono diw-9007? I think I have to create a new listing for it I do not see it anywhere. It's breathtaking

My copy was a mess. It had terrible surface noise, record itself was slightly warped, the Yellow wasn't in fact completely Yellow, there were streaks of Green everywhere on the record, also one side label was slightly torn. This was a brand new, sealed record. I would say quality control on this is non-existent, terrible pressing by Newbury.

My version of this has the turquoise labels, but has the later back cover with "RIVERSIDE" in all caps and "MONO" in all caps and in parentheses, all in a box on the lower portion of the back cover, along with the usual technical info.In the deadwax, on both sides it has the "Bell Sound" stamp and the "sf" scribe for Sam Feldman, who cut this version. Side 2 also has a very faint stamp which appears to say either "Audiomatrix" or "Audiomatt".I have a few Turquoise label/Orpheum production Riversides, and the deadwax inscriptions usually match those of the original pressings. If this version is indeed from 1968 as stated in the description above, i would make sense that Feldman cut this, since it was around 68 that Riverside/Orpheum was bought by ABC, who began pressing their catalog, albeit with different covers and/or titles, and Feldman did cut a lot of stuff for ABC and it's own jazz label, Impulse.Perhaps this was an in-between version, using Feldman's new cut, but using up old Riverside stock of labels and jackets? Any info?

Ahh, that's disappointing. Frustrating that they did a fold down. Why? The mono tapes weren't even 8 years old when this issue came out. They really couldn't have used the tapes? It's not like they went bad (tape takes a lot longer than that to degrade, especially the older formulas of tape). It probably cost more time and money to fold down the stereo tapes. The only reason I could see for doing this, would be that they erased and reused the mono tapes (which unfortunately, was a common practice of many record labels back then).

I have added the version you guys mentioned here to the database, as I also have the same one. It does indeed seem to be a fold down unfortunately.

Sounds to me like a folddown. Autumn Leaves sounds like the stereo track (in mono of course) vs the mono track on the DCC CD.

Yeah, it helps, thanks. Your post brought up good points. Supposedly the mono master tapes were destroyed in the early '70's and all that survives is Autumn Leaves (and some outtakes). Autumn Leaves was put as the last track (a bonus track) on the Steve Hoffman mastered DCC gold CD and sounds different (bass solo different place?) - but that should be a definitive indicator.If the Autumn Leaves on our LP matches the DCC bonus track, it should be from the dedicated mono (though if directly from the master tape or a later generation, I don't know). If it matches the stereo track in every way except it being mono, it's a fold down.I'll compare later this morning and post what I hear.Thanks for your reply.

Hi,Sounds pretty good to me, though I've never had an original of this to compare. Never really thought of the possibility of it maybe being a fold down, though I'm not entirely sure how Riverside went about the whole mono/stereo thing. Some labels did fold downs, others did dedicated mono mixes. The only thing I could think of that could possibly prove that the mono version of this album is a fold down, is on the CD reissue of this that Fantasy did in the late 80's there are a few bonus tracks that are listed as "mono takes", and they are indeed mono, and they are different from the versions on this mono pressing. At any rate, this pressing sounds fine, and is probably the closest I'll get to an original of this album without having to sell my house lol Hope that helps.

How does this copy sound to you? I believe I just bought the same version. It has the same cover like you describe with MONO in all caps and my deadwax also has Bell Sound sf and Audiomatrix. It also has the date 3-9-67. I was hoping the deadwax would match the original pressing, but alas. Hopefully it's from the mono master tapes though vs a fold down.I haven't cleaned mine yet, so I haven't put it on, but will do so within the next day or so.

I have this, sounds great on my system. (KEF Q100s, Marantz PM6005, Project Debut Carbon). It may not sound as good as the 2004 remaster, but it costs a fraction of the price, so if you're in the market for an affordable copy, this is great.

The distortion on the piano highs is on the master tape as well, it's due to mic overloading during initial recording.

Yes it's 33 1/3 rpm. Same mastering as the 45 rpm but cut for 33 1/3 rpm.

Is this on a single 33 1/3 rpm disc? I have this on a 2xLP @ 45rpm set which I can't find listed on discogs and I'm wondering if that's what this page is supposed to be for?

This pressing is on a single 33 1/3 LP. The 45 RPM version, I believe, is listed under 2004.

Album is great, sound quality is perfect. 180gr, DOL did it right. Blue in green (B4) is not the original piece, maybe is some other take.

Yeah. Probably not the pressing but the recording itself as piano is notoriously hard to record and Keepnews wasn't an accomplished engineer. The first track is especially bad.

Evans first album to feature the ensemble that featured on the following three albums until the untimely death of bassist Scott LaFaro in '61. Again, there are great interpretations of standards, however the bass comes more to the forefront, it's all very good quality, a classic.
