Honestly, a bit hyped. I understand and appreciate the contribution of Roulé in shaping the French sound, and eventually even the sound of dance music in the late 90s (in the form of MSBWY), but this release has very little going for itself. I like "On Da Rocks" for the chilled out beat, and "Ventura" for creating the atmosphere of suspense/thrill, but other tracks are very forgettable. Same goes for Vol. 2, except for "Club Soda", in my opinion. It's hyped because it's a T-Bang production, but Trax On Da Rocks, both volumes, are Roulé's most ordinary releases.

I understand that your opinion might come just from the "French House" side, but you're forgetting the fact that Thomas loves Chicago House, Booty House, Juke and all that stuff. The rest of the tracks that are forgettable for you are actually meant as an exercise for him to get into these subgenres. What To Do is a proper Juke / Booty House track, same with Roulé Boulé (go and compare it with DJ Deeon - Barcodez).

You are an idiot. This was THE track back then in the 90s. And if you don't like, then don't comment.

A bit hyped? Maybe so in your mind. I am not completely disagreeing, but for instance, please read til the end, Darren Emerson dropped Rollin' and Scrachin' in Voodoo mid 90's, granted it is a Daft Punk production but the place went wild and at the end he just waved a white vinyl with Daft Punk written with a sharpy on it. Everyone was who the f**k? Little did I know, or anyone else at the time what they would become. To say they changed an incredible amount of peoples mindsets at that time is an understatement. Some tried to replicate the sound or produce something similar but 'that' sound was 'that' the sound.Equally Sankeys around a similar time (a year or so later) Luke Slater dropped Ventura and the place I mean absolutely erupted like I have never seen a place before or ever since... Brilliant times and a disco (no Daft Punk) sound made with massive jacking beats, clangs, acid and everything else to go with it at the time made a completely unique sound which could be played in any decent club in the day, house or techno, truely purveyors of something very special at the time... Happy times..!

What To Do + + + + + juke af

Love it. A tiny bit dated, but every song on the EP can still rock a dance floor and get everybody moving. Thomas Bangalter really hit the nail on the head with this 1995 release. Very influential house record.

Cant help it, but sound of this is very outdated and had grown very old. B2 could sound decent, but that terrible synth sample is really bringing it down and that's case with all the tracks. This is that part of house music history which is already behind us and there is no reason to return to it. 3* for nostalgia factor

I had 1 & 2 played well with DJ SPEN THE MIDNIGHT EP On CHEZ Lable or they sound very similar all these records have now disappeared along with he rest of my expensive collection : (
  • Ranicengi
ventura is the bomb!
  • Gholbirius
Another floor filler. Real underground Daft Punk.
  • Maldarbaq
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!!!!! :D
  • Worla
If there is a re-press can someone make a new entry for this please.?!?!??
  • Kazijora
The label on mine is backwards from the rest of my Roulé releases, track names on side A, roulette table on side B. I don't know if that's the way it's always been, but I thought it was interesting enough to mention.
  • Moonshaper
I have the same with my Music Sounds Better With You repress. So maybe another identifier?
  • Kazimi
Replying to confirm that the old ones have the roulette wheel sticker on side A, new ones on side B.
  • Nahn
apparently there would be a repress
  • Mr.Death
OUTRUN IS HUGE..... If you want to instantly eject energy into the dancefloor LAY IT DOWN.
  • BlackBerry
A-side is a punky demonstration of phatness. Crunchy-uptempo-nasty-acid hardhouse. A major funky brainwashing influenced by Sneak or Paul Johnson, but almost sounding like Michael Foreshaw!
  • Rolorel
It's funny to hear that as the first time myself and Michael Forshaw met was at an outdoor party in Derbyshire, where he DJ'd and played "What to do", which sent me on a mission to find that track, with me thinking it was something on dancemania!
  • Rollers from Abdun
A funky record full of energy which was clearly was inspired by the Chicago sound back in the 80's.
