If you enjoy music from this period, including artists such as Sam Cooke & Jesse Belvin, you may agree that McCurn's version of "I'm Just A Country Boy" is simply marvelous! It's lack of greater success might be attributed to the promotional limitations of the then - small label (A & M Records). Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, nevertheless, gave it their best shot. This single was played on the radio, and at best, was what is called a mid - chart 'hit.' I feel that this is one of the best of the obscure L P ' s. While the single release didn't go very high on the charts, collectors of chart music from this period, and this type of music, are aware of it. It's too bad that the album wasn't more successful. It would have been fine to hear more recordings by George McCurn. While he had a wonderful voice, when this material was recorded, McCurn was in his early 40's and so probably didn't appeal to the younger record buyers, as did, for example, Sam Cooke (who also started singing in the Spiritual Music field). This should be made available, at least on an in - demand basis, on Compact Disc or Downloading (as some movies are). I recently purchased an early Herb Alpert (related) album, I think that it was A & M 103, because the label used to place small pictures of prior released L P ' s, at the bottom of the back side of the L P cover (and, later, print pictures of the label's L P ' s on the paper inner sleeve). I purchased this early A & M album because it's the only one with a picture of McCurn's album. I like to collect Pop Music, & other styles, and have a number of copies of Herb Alpert's more successful releases.
