Why is a 10 track album on 2 different discs? Aargh.

If it's 56:00, fine. But a lot of 2 disc records I see are Update:I received a replacement disc, which was perfect. Perhaps there is a rogue batch from a bad set of stampers or something.

I've got this as well, but to my ears, it's one of those classic clear vinyl things (I find white discs to be similarly problematic). I also own "Music for People in Trouble" by Susanne Sundfør - another clear Bella Union record - and (my copy at least) has similar issues. I play my records out of a Line 6 Amplifi 75 guitar amplifier (via an auxiliary input), with a Behringer Mini FBQ pre-amp'ing... naturally as I've got just the one speaker and tend to use digital masters for headphone listening, it's not so much of an issue for me personally... That said, as a rule, I prefer it when an artist avoids clear or white vinyl, because I find it tends to suffer compared with standard (black) or other colour variants

My deluxe edition plays fine; no noise on sides A or B. It's a beautifully packaged album -- just a tight fit with all the inserts...

I have a similar issue. Sides A&B play with a loud static noise in the left channel all the way through all tracks. Sides C&D were OK/

John Grant is a keen observer of the human condition. He seems to want what eveyone else wants: to connect authentically with someone. Seems he's had a bad go of it, though. The vignettes he presents paint questionable pictures of the guys he's come across; so much so that even pinnacle emotions like love have become bleak. So he illuminates the asinine male ego and the appeal of it. As an album, 'Love Is Magic' is heavy on the no-fucks-to-give. This time around, though, Grant is able to balance his vulnerability without sap. The gorgeous, crisp production--with its with synth flourishes--conjures up all the feels, yet, at times, is cold and robotic--though it's not a bad thing. This is Grant finding a vehicle to convey his long-smoldering, pent-up sass. 'Love Is Magic' is a man baring bones and being able to laugh afterwards--not from embarassment, but from irony.
