Curve's approach to music making seems very attractive, supporting shoegaze-type guitars with synths and drum machine grooves. But to me there has always been one flaw to Curve's EPs and albums: Their songs often sound interchangeable, are based on the same melodic ideas again and again. The good news - this EP is an exception. Faît Accompli on the A side remains perhaps the best known Curve tune after all. It still sounds fresh, hasn't lost its pop- and sex appeal, and the beats still prove effective. The B side tunes, which are not featured on the Pubic Fruit compilation as opposed to all other early EP tracks, are two secret gems. Arms Out has lighter drums, noisier guitars and a dreamier sound, whereas Sigh is more free-form, more fragile and yet cool as Curve always were, arguably the highlight here. Halliday/Garcia make the best out of their knack for melodic seduction on this three-tracker.
