  • Dyni
Same as alphagrade here. My copy sounds beautiful. Very minor surface noise in quietest tracks like Runeii only audible in headphones. But i mostly listen thru speakers. Purchased in 2011. I have an original copy of Spirit and don't hear much difference in quality. maybe just slightly more dynamic range.
  • Moralsa
Agreed I have a copy of this and the Mark Hollis LP and always wondered what the fuss was about. Mine is clean and no audible noise. Anyone know if this is similar to the CD release or does it have the same track times as the original LP pressing?
  • Friert
I have this dreaded Ba Da pressing which I purchased back in 2014 via Juno Records. I must have struck gold as I have a clean and delightful pressing with no audible surface noise.
  • krot
I wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing mine. Was only $18, but it sounds thin, shitty, tons of surface noise. Giant drag, because it's such great music.
  • Jaiarton
Just got an email from New On Vinyl saying there will be a reissue coming in January. You'd be better off paying to import it than buying this spotty pressing for $70+.
  • Yla
This pressing is an absolute embarrassment. It is truly awful, and should have never left the factory. BaDaBing also did the Mark Hollis reissue and it's equally as terrible. It's such a shame.
  • Dozilkree
was the "such a shame" comment a pun? haha
  • Qumenalu
I guess I lucked out, my copy sounds pretty good. There's definitely some surface noise but it's more than tolerable.
  • Modar
There are at least two pressings of this reissue. The first one had terrible surface noise issues (not sure where that was pressed); they did a re-press at RTI and that one apparently sounds better, but many copies are still scuffed (with resulting surface noise) because of the inner sleeve. The RTI pressing has their marks -- "22153.1(3)..." and "22153.2(3)..." -- in the deadwax. This is cut by Kevin Gray ("KG@CA" in the deadwax) and despite supposedly being cut from a CD it really does sound fantastic, if you can get a clean copy.
  • SupperDom
I bought a copy of this and it had a sizable defect, it looked like a piece of paper, pressed in the the B-side. It also had surface noise and just didn't sound all that great. I contacted Ba Da Bing via twitter and they sent me a replacement copy free of charge! the new copy they sent me sounds miles better and has no defect.
  • Rleillin
My copy sounds good. I'm playing it on a brand new Pro-Ject Debut Carbon through headphones, and it's clean. There is some slight background noise in quiet parts, but so what, it's vinyl?!?! It's a respectable reissue that sounds better than my CD and I can afford it. I would buy this one if I were you.
  • Orll
Terrible surface noise and pops. I am so disappointed with this copy! Hiss, pops, crackle, fuzz - you name it, I heard it. Awful and unacceptable! I read several rave reviews about the dynamics on this one and couldn't wait to score a copy. Wish I bought the CD!

RE: BAD PRESSINGoddly, i have LS and the hollis album on ba da bing, and they both sound great. i also have an original (greek) pressing of LS, and the ba da bing press sounds just as good.
  • Yanthyr
You lucky duckling.
  • Felolune
Re: poor pressing issue. Ive listened to four different cleaned mint copies of this one by now and some are definitely quieter than others - the first copy I had was unlistenable because of surface noise, two werent that bad but still noisier than new vinyl should be and my last one was finally decent but had a major cutting error halfway through the last track of side one. Im guessing the pressing plant must have had some issues during the print run.
  • Zargelynd
Post deleted.
  • Nnulam
I bought both Laughing Stock and Mark Hollis re-issues from Ba Da Bing. They are very badly pressed, producing lots of surface noise and the sourcing is suspect. Not on heavy vinyl. I would try to track down and original copy of Laughing Stock if you want vinyl and stick with MH on cd.
  • Wnex
It's more quiet than I expected.. Oh well. It is still the best album ever made.
