This is an incredible piece of work. Respect due.

Nice artwork, but sadly this is the kind of sleeve that will chemically react with the record which will deteriorate the sound quality massively over time. You can tell when you hold the record under light and you see that the black vinyl turns kind of matte/grey. Replace them with standard sleeves or put the records in an additional paper sleeve which should remedy this.

is anyone else's copy a bit shit? needle jumping all over the place, low frequencies muddy and some merely registering as rumbling static, interstitial parts of tracks dominated by massive pops (also a recurrent problem on my copy of koch)? a good 99% sure it's not a problem on my end...

same here. first thought of bad adjustion of my system. probably not.

As Mark Twain said of letters, I didn't have time to write you a short one so I wrote you a long one instead... This is the album equivalent of the perfect short letter, at just 26 minutes (and priced accordingly!)Other reviewers here have captured the feel of the album perfectly, so I won't repeat them. Beautiful, evocative sounds and production that build towards a full-sized climax with DTI and the concluding tracks. My first acquisition of LG's work, but definitely won't be the last, and the printed clear pvc sleeve forms a stunning cover with the white vinyl inside.

I bought this ages ago, and didn't listen to it because it wasn't what I expected. I've finally given it a proper listen... I feel like I've been bathed in nostalgia.I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece, but the swathing ambience definitely has it's moments. High points for me are Razor, DTI and Dollis Hill... some heavy grooves. The immortal stabs of Rufige end the album on an almost transcendental note (seriously). Despite being very different to the original tapes, I'll bet many an aging junglist will be transported back to 1995 listening to this.

The concept of this album is great - and it's been executed perfectly. Gorgeous, considered experiments playing around with the ambient interludes of old-skool jungle. Not to mention that deep sub-bass on 'Dollis Hill'. Highly recommended!

What to say about this album? I will preface that I am not familiar with Gamble's other works so I do not have that as a reference. Now, I will say that the concept and execution are genius. The idea to take snippets of old jungle tapes and strip to the ambient parts and manipulate is done so well that I find this album more than easy to listen repeatedly. The variance from song to song creates a cohesive journey through that time period and it is a single person's view of that period through music. The songs are mostly ambient, looping affairs but to me are never boring as most of the songs change half way through most of the album. The periods of manipulated loops never overstay their welcome and the length of the album comes in at around 26 minutes making this a very quick listen and easily repeatable. That's my biggest issue with albums is that I collect so many (to me) that I find most albums difficult to come back to. Not so with "Diversions". The song ordering and sonic palette is varied enough that you can pick up new artifacts that you missed the first time. This is more introspective music so best to listen while alone or with headphones. Enjoy!
