Not quite 20 years after that original Stereo mix got played and air-time the Stereo mix caught a new wave of Stereophonic fans when the rare Stereo mix was put on the first American Graffiti album soundtrack!

Well, I have not seen American Graffitti album that has At the prom track on it....

This is historically an interesting retro release......both originally coupled together in mono in early 1959 with GS as the tagged A side, (It was slightly late out and could not compeat with The Spaniels superior and now established version) End put both tracks out on a new and first wave experimental stereo Flamingos album .(GS had a fake stereo mix as it had only been recorded and mixed in mono.IOHEFY however was recorded in a first End stereo session and DJ's on hearing this track on the album promoted by End fell in love with IOHEFY and started playing over GS.. It took off.End decided to re-promote the single with IOHEFY as the A and lead side and in Stereo End wanted a Stereo track for the B side so dropped GS and replaced it with At The Prom as this too was in Stereo and a superior track to GS, it also took offin that mid summer of '59 in that first wave of stereophonic 45's.Sadly collectibles have NOT done their homework 100% whilst the A side is that wonderful Stereo mix selecting GS back as the B IMHO was a big mistake and diluting ATP as the A on another 45 was just sales greed have no idea if ATP is in it's superior Stereo mix.Just a great shame that two slots on the Bubbler carousel are taken up when one 45 would have done the job and better.Note the End Stereo 45 has the same catalogue number the B coupling is the best give away + the matrix change on IOHEFY and of course the stereo text in bold black capitals below the dog! Ultra rare to find in anything like an ex condition, as this is the doo-wop gem to keep and have IMO it knocks Earth Angel by miles and miles. The only other artist to do justice and come close to this must have classic has been Art Garfunkel (he also did an amazing job on The Beach Boys Disney Girls, (breath taking). Hear both Art's tracks in SQ Quadraphonic on his legendary Breakaway album now that's what I call music!

There may well have been a very limited edition Stereo release from that first stereo wave 1958 - 1962This was recored on a 3 track stereo machine at a very early stereo recording session.naturally this faultless doo-wop smooch gem really does push all the buttons and makes the hair stand up 100% totally incomparable oozes romance and sex.Art Garfunkel's mid 70's cover is excellent and also gets you......but nothing ever comes close to this!

Note: There indeed maybe be 6 versions listed of this ULTIMATE Doo-Wop gem however one edition and the Ultimate is missingThe Stereo USA release from the first stereo craze 1958 and taking off in 1959 (this track was made for Stereo and just hits the spot at the back of the neck, this track can not be heard in mono as excellent as it is! Sadly End like most others thought stereo a silly fad, the release preceded the 1961 agreed (between RCA-Victor and Columbia Inc) format of SH 33 1/3 7" for USA Stereophonic singles and EPsThe End Stereo release has a standard 1 1/2" LH die-cut pressed at 45rpm as stipulated and required by RCA-Victor from1949 for ALL commercial USA 7" 45 rpm records so that any USA released single cut at 45rpm would play on RCA's 7" 45 changers. hence why and to fully dispel the myth re 7" 45rpm jukeboxes, the only reason the little platters had a 1 1/2" cone or centre was because that's how the records had to legally come with a 1 1/2" LH die-cut and were needed to play them.I always smile at the myth nonsense of "aww it's has a large hole it's a Juke Box record"! NO its a 1 1/2" LH die-cut for USA play on 1949+ RCA Changers. Juke boxes from very early 1960's onwards have automated centre options of SH or LH so in theory ANY 7" record for 45 rpm play on a1960's + Juke Box does not have to a LH die-cut finish. "Stereo" was the only addition to the text on the labels.the Stereo edition carries the same catalogue details E 1046 the confirmation is the matrix info on the stampers.
