Notes
About the Guitars:The first five tunes on side one were done on my suberb (sic) Gibson Citation, the back of which is pictured on the album jacket. Advantage was taken of its lovely acoustic sound by recording both acoustically and electrically. The mix is about 60% electric to 40% acoustic. "Nobody Does it Better" was recorded with my Ryoji Matsuoka M-80 Flamenco guitar.
Side two takes a somewhat more "electric guitar" approach, using the Gibson Super V CES guitar on the first five tunes. The guitar was recorded by mixing an amplifier microphone with a direct-to-console line. I also used a small condenser microphone placed inside the Super V, and mixed in just a small amount of that sound for acoustic ambience.
"Willow Weep For Me" was done on a Gibson EDS-1275 double neck 6- and 12-string guitar, modified for individual output from each neck. The six-string neck is tuned with a "drone" tuning (D7 (sus) add F#) which was played with the right hand, while using a "hammer on" technique with the left hand to play the melody line on the 12-string neck. The electric signal of all the guitars was processed thru MXR and Delta Lab digital delay lines and fed to Lab Series amplifiers.
About the Music:
This album is quite a departure for me, both in substance and production.
My other albums are, for the most part, fairly complex "studio" productions, and original material. This time, however, I felt the need to do a "one man, one guitar" collection of music.
With the exception of "Nobody Does It Better," all the tunes are old standards, and were selected simply because they are some of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
