Unlike many of their contemporaries, The Gap Band released simply too many funktastic tunes to be remembered for any single one. One of their assaults on the discos at the time was 'Burn Rubber'. Memorable for it's monstrous chopper intro and its absolutely phatt bass line, the song - like plenty of Gap Band records - has been sampled* to death over the decades, most notably by George Michael on 'Star People'. *A major problem with my generation (b. 1981) is that we hear the echoes before the voice. I am constantly hearing the records that contain the samples before I hear the original sample. It's driving me nuts. You could call us the "2nd Hand Generation"...
