This masterpiece has to be Omar'S best tune to date and yes, one of the hottest dance tracks of the last decade! Such an overwhelming blend of melodies, so many layers... You can't recognize here the nasty and chunky but overall simple sounds of his older tracks (even the great "U"). Yes, they are serious contenders, but this baby is even better than his two other super singles "The further you look, the less you will see" and "Kosmos 1402", which are two other blasters. Let's add "Night", put those four on a piece of wax and you get the EP of the millenium. Too bad it's a one-sider!!Edit: I didn't know it when I wrote my review, but there's also a version with a beatless mix on the B-side:http://www.discogs.com/Omar-S-Psychotic-Photosynthesis/release/4074148

Best of 2007? While that certainly is plausible, the self-proclaimed "best record in the past 10 years by any-damn-body" has gotten quite a bit of hype. Omar-S could do better off if he toned down the talking and let the music speak for itself. He made a career off of perpetuating the Detroit techno sound - there will always be a niche for that - but to gain my respect he needs to push the boundaries of techno. Those who can do that successfully are the true masters of this art.

Vakula is pushing those, mate... I don't think that's what Omar is attempting here, this is a tech-soul analogue journey for the senses... although I get your point (no-one likes a big-head!)

We are in front of one of the best deep house records of 2007. Very powerful on the dancefloor and above all very impressive and communicative to your mind and your emotions. I personally consider this one to be the Omar S masterpiece, if we remember Derrick May (above all but not only) for String of life, Alex will be strictly connected to "Psychotic photosynthesis" in the next years to come. We can find all the ingredients to recognize it as a perfect example of "free-emotive-house music", maybe not music for everybody but one thing is sure: not everybody can do it. Detroit Tech soul manifesto.

This thing is like a super thick deep dish pizza with so many layers for your ears to digest.
