33 track novelty compilation with some truly terrible records collected for the 'connoisseur' (strange use of the word, is it possible to be a connoisseur of rubbish? I suppose it is). Some of these tracks fall into the 'star makes bad record' category and have to be heard to be believed. David Carradine (of Kung Fu and Kill Bill fame) cut an album of weird folk songs off the back of his early 70s success... and The Chicken Song involves a heavy dose of LSD and a free-the-chickens theme. Max Bygraves goes disco and doesn't bother to change the gender... making things a bit strange. As for eccentric newsreader Reginald Bosanquet's stab at disco - words fail me. Bullseye compere Jim Bowen tried his hand at rap - with very mixed results while Hylda Baker ("she knows, you know") goes mod with a sterling assault on The Who song Substitute. If I was one of these personalities I would have had a very stern word with my agent for getting me these gigs. Some of the funniest tracks are the promotional gambits - such as Linda Jardim's homage to Northampton and her bid to make the country's most boring town 'happening'. Patel Rap is likewise worth a go if you like ersatz hip hop from the twelth dimension.I would like to play this to someone from outside the UK as many of the 'artists' involved are household names here ... but will mean zero to anyone else.If you like daft novelty records, awful 45s that were cut for no reason and talented actors who can't sing then this is the collection for you. I do actually like this CD - it's come in very useful on several occasions - for instance - clearing the last stragglers from a party or as a threat to keep the kids quiet. If you're in the habit of making mix tapes or CDs for friends then slipping a couple of these tracks in between your otherwise oh-so-cool choices will certainly elicit many compliments and admiring looks from your buddies.
