This release should be filed chronologically before Encore. It was Columbia's choice for the first single, despite Lynn and Jam & Lewis's insistence that "Encore" should be the lead single. Preppie limped to #85 R&B in the U.S. while "Encore" reached #1 R&B for a few weeks. The practice of releasing a single with the same name as an album is also usually avoided, as it confuses the record-buying public into thinking they already have what was on the shelves (even if it's an album rather than a single), thereby undercutting album sales. Live and learn.
