The latest salvo in the continuing dark electronic assault which is Depressive Disorder. Those of you fortunate enough to own this version can also thank your lucky stars the band decided to include their long out of print demos as a bonus disc to this viscerally horrifying outing. It had been three years since this pair graced us with an album. The wait was worth it.Right from the opening cut, The Chronicle of Fear, there's no hope of escape. For nearly ten years now Patrik Lev and Radim Cap have been on a mission; a mission to unleash the most luridly disturbing synthetic compositions that they can. They change it up slightly through the usage of guitars but their application is more punk than anything. Don't look for lovelorn agony to be played out with this pair, they have no time for such mundane topics. If anything, their English as second language lyrics are some of the best you will find. I applaud the effort and dedication it takes not only to speak another tongue but to get the nuances and dialect shadings correct. This is a very disconcerting album, it isn't for the clubs despite it's generally high tempo. Like their contemporaries Disharmony, Depressive Disorder make the music they do to expunge some kind of catharsis, they like it as it is: bleak with no possible other view. They don't overdo it with media samples, their style (and yes, they have one all their own) is direct at times but overall it is nihilism they exude. I'm at a loss to try and depict anything more from them, it makes my mind reel that such an outfit exists in this world yet draw so little attention. If there were to be a global collapse, Depressive Disorder would be right at home. For all the time I have spent listening to them, they just don't seem to have any faith in humanity much less a belief that there is a future of any kind out there. Live for today, drink and dance... for tomorrow we die.
